We Just Hit 500 Bowling Alleys: Here's What We Learned

BowlingAlleys.io just crossed 500 bowling alleys across America. From small-town lanes to big-city entertainment centers, here's our journey and what's next.

We started BowlingAlleys.io with a simple question: why is it so hard to find a good bowling alley near you?

Google Maps shows you locations, but not whether the lanes are well-maintained. Review sites have scattered information. Bowling alley websites (when they exist) are often outdated. And nobody tells you which places have cosmic bowling on Friday nights or the best prices for birthday parties.

So we built something better. And today, we're excited to announce that BowlingAlleys.io now features over 500 bowling alleys across the United States.

The Journey: From Zero to 500

What started as a directory of a few dozen alleys has grown into the most comprehensive bowling resource in America. Here's what those 500 alleys represent:

Coast to Coast Coverage: From Seattle's waterfront lanes to Miami's neon-lit centers, from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon. We're covering bowling alleys in all 50 states.

Every Type of Alley: Small-town 8-lane family centers. Massive 64-lane entertainment complexes. Historic candlepin alleys in New England. Modern boutique bowling lounges with craft cocktails. Duckpin lanes preserving a century-old tradition. We're documenting them all.

Real, Useful Information: Operating hours that are actually accurate. Pricing you can trust. Photos of the actual facilities. Reviews from real bowlers. The stuff that matters when you're deciding where to bowl tonight.

What We've Learned

Building a directory of 500+ bowling alleys taught us some fascinating things about America's bowling scene:

1. Bowling Alleys Are More Diverse Than You Think

Every region has its own bowling culture. New England has candlepin and duckpin bowling that you won't find anywhere else. The Midwest has historic bowling centers that have served their communities for 70+ years. The West Coast has trendy "boutique bowling" experiences with full restaurants and bars. The South has massive family entertainment centers where bowling is just one of a dozen activities.

There's no single "bowling alley experience"—and that's what makes this industry so interesting to document.

2. Pricing Varies Wildly (And Not How You'd Expect)

You'd assume that bowling in expensive cities costs more. Sometimes that's true—but we've found $8/game alleys in San Francisco and $25/hour alleys in rural towns with resort-style facilities.

The biggest factor isn't location, it's business model. Traditional bowling alleys keep prices low and make money on volume and food sales. Entertainment centers charge premium prices for the full "experience." Boutique alleys target date nights and adults-only crowds with craft beer and upscale pricing.

Knowing what you're paying before you arrive is exactly why we built this platform.

3. Bowling Alley Owners Care (A Lot)

Since launching, we've heard from dozens of bowling alley owners who want their information to be accurate and helpful. They've corrected hours, updated amenities, and shared photos. Some have claimed their listings and are actively managing their profiles.

This told us something important: there's a real need for a platform that gives bowling alleys visibility while helping bowlers find the perfect place to play.

What Makes These 500 Special

We didn't just scrape data and call it a day. Every alley on BowlingAlleys.io includes:

Verified Information: We cross-reference multiple sources to ensure accuracy. Hours, pricing, amenities—we want you to trust what you see.

User Reviews & Ratings: Real feedback from bowlers who've actually visited. No fake reviews, no paid placements.

Detailed Amenities: Want to know which alleys have bumper bowling? Cosmic bowling? Pro shops? Arcade games? Leagues? We've got you covered.

Interactive Maps: See every bowling alley in your city at a glance. Filter by features. Find the closest options fast.

Pricing Transparency: Know what you'll pay before you go. No surprises at the front desk.

Thank You to the Bowling Community

This milestone wouldn't be possible without:

Bowlers who left reviews: Your honest feedback helps others find great alleys and helps bowling centers improve.

Alley owners who claimed their listings: Thank you for partnering with us to keep information accurate and up-to-date.

Everyone who shared BowlingAlleys.io: Word-of-mouth is how we grow, and we're grateful for every share.

What's Next: The Road to 1,000

Hitting 500 is exciting, but we're just getting started. Here's what's coming:

More Coverage: There are over 3,500 bowling centers in the United States. We're working to document every single one that's open and active.

Better Data: We're constantly improving our information—adding photos, updating pricing, verifying details, and expanding amenity listings.

Enhanced Features: We're building tools to help you find exactly the right alley for your needs. Planning a birthday party? Need wheelchair accessibility? Want a place with a full bar? We're making it easier to filter and find.

Community Growth: More reviews, more photos, more insights from real bowlers. The more people use the platform, the more valuable it becomes for everyone.

Supporting Local Lanes: Many bowling alleys are family-owned businesses that have served their communities for decades. We want to help them thrive by connecting them with bowlers who are looking for exactly what they offer.
